Colleen Wilkin (nee Moore), 1934-2009.
Died in Sherbrooke on February 25 after a full and generous life, surrounded by her children Dwane, Shannon and Robb who will miss her dearly. Born in Shawinigan, Quebec on June 14, 1934, Colleen was the eldest child of Iva Hitchcock and Isaac “Pete” Moore and big sister to John Moore and the late Carol Millett. She will also be remembered as a loving grandmother to Holly and cherished mother-in-law and friend to Renee Arshinoff, Natalie Bernard and Michael Owen. Colleen spent her childhood in Shawinigan, Brownsburg and Montreal, and recalled with particular affection the time she lived as a young teenager on the Moore family farm near Stanstead. She later moved with her parents to St. Jean sur-Richelieu and commuted by train each day to high school in Montreal West. In the 1950s she trained as a nurse at the Sherbrooke Hospital, where she also worked and taught until the early 1960s when her marriage to Vernon Wilkin brought her to Asbestos. Flower-grower, book lover, and caring listener, Colleen left an indelible mark on family members and her many treasured friends, including her fellow Wales Home residents. Visitation will be held Monday, March 2 commencing at 11 a.m. at the Steve Elkas Funeral Home, 601, rue Du Conseil, Sherbrooke, followed by a memorial service at approximately 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colleen’s memory may be made to the Wales Home Foundation (Landscaping & Gardens Initiative) which will improve residents’ access to and beautify the Home’s grounds.
