Chaque vie est une histoire

Mr. John Patrick Hayes

Longueuil, 5 juin 2023

1962-2023

John Patrick Hayes passed away suddenly on June 5th 2023 at Charles-Le Moyne Hospital at the age of 61. He was predeceased by his parents Joan Harvey Hayes and John Lloyd Hayes and was the beloved husband of Chantal Lapointe, proud and dedicated father of Sarah (Vincent) and Patrick. He is also survived by his sisters Ann (David) and Marie, and his brother Paul (Joanne). He also leaves in mourning Chantal’s parents Carmen Hovington and Robert Lapointe as well as her brothers Daniel (Angélique) and Benoît (Yevgeniya). He will be missed by his twelve nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

John was a caring and thoughtful man, constantly on the lookout for opportunities to help others. He was concerned with safety and passionate about ensuring that things were done well. He used his analytical mind to serve others and was constantly looking for ways to improve things.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Bishop’s University, John had a very successful career with Montreal Trust, then with Bombardier for almost 25 years, and finally as Vice-President at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. He was a valued member of his team and especially appreciated for his dedication and integrity.

Sergeant (retired) Hayes served his country as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces. He was a member of the Sherbrooke Hussars from 1979-1989. John was known by all as both a loyal and trustworthy man. His leadership, his skill, and his kindness were recognised by fellow members of the unit as well as his superiors. He was particularly proud of his ties to the Regiment. He enthusiastically continued his involvement within the Sherbrooke Hussars Association, notably as President of the Association from 2019 until his passing. He looked forward to every opportunity to organize activities and to spend meaningful time with his army colleagues and friends.

Above all, John was a family man. He and Chantal were truly dedicated to each other, cherishing many years together which were rich in travels and projects. John was so full of love for his wife and children and so very very proud of them. His pride and sincere interest were also manifested with his siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was happiest when surrounded by family, taking the time to enquire about what everyone was up to, remembering everything and providing information and advice. John Patrick was very proud of his Irish roots and had great interest in history, genealogy and current events. He will be dearly missed by all of us. We are sad and devastated that his life ended so soon but determined that he will live on in our hearts and in our deeds.

We would like to thank the CETAM paramedics as well as the Emergency Department and ICU health care professionals and physicians at Charles-Le Moyne Hospital. We are very grateful for your skill, your professionalism, your compassion and your relentless efforts.

In recognition of John Patrick’s life and of the values that guided his actions, we suggest a donation to one of the following organisations: The Canadian Red Cross, The Canadian Cancer Society, Food Banks Canada and Héma-Québec.

Family and friends will meet at the Steve L. Elkas Complex (4230 Bertrand-Fabi, Sherbrooke) on Saturday June 17, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 2:00 PM to 4:15 PM, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 4:30 PM. You can view the ceremony live or on replay at https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/75933.

The burial will be held at the St-Michael’s Cemetery, Sherbrooke, QC at a later date.
