M. Peter Jones

1944 – 2023

We are saddened to announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather Peter Jones October 22, 1944 (Verdun, Qc) – November 2, 2023 (Sherbrooke, Qc)

Peter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn, and his children Gregory (married to Michelle) and Elizabeth (married to Eddie). He is also survived by his youngest brother, two sisters, two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Peter was predeceased by two brothers and his parents.

Peter graduated from chemical engineering at McGill and completed his doctorate at M.I.T. He was a devoted professor at the Université de Sherbrooke. During his years at the University, he held the position of vice dean and several mandates as chairman of the chemical engineering department. He was also instrumental in starting the Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences and was a member of the Board of Directors of the International Water Association for many years.

Peter and his wife were avid travelers and visited many countries all over the world. His sabbaticals during his teaching career allowed them to live in France, Australia, and Mexico, as well as in several places in Canada and the United States. They have many great friends and happy memories to cherish from their time abroad together.

Family and friends will meet at the Steve L. Elkas Complex, 4230 Bertrand-Fabi, Sherbrooke, on Friday November 10, 2023, from 7PM to 9PM.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday November 11, 2023, at 1PM at the complex chapel, followed by burial at the St Antoine’s Cemetery, Sherbrooke (Lennoxville).
