Wesley “Johnny” Henry Comeau
Sherbrooke, 1 November 2023
1940 – 2023
Wes passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on November 1, 2023, at the age of 82, in the palliative care at Magog Hospital.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara McNab, his daughter Joanne (Madison) and his son Rick (Meredith). Wesley will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Joshua (Mona), Matthew, Daniel, Hannah (Dillon) and Calvin, and his three great-grandchildren Abigail, Elijah and Ameila.
He was born on December 31, 1940, in Magog to Victor Comeau and Annie Tracey. Raised in Eastman, he spent his youth playing baseball and working on a local farm. He later moved to Sherbrooke where he met his future wife, Barbara. Together, they moved to Maine where they raised their two children, Joanne and Rick. The family stayed in North Berwick briefly, before settling in Brunswick where they would host a variety of relatives over the years at their apartment on Cumberland Street.
Wes was well-known as an excellent bowler throughout Brunswick and Lewiston, ME as well as a tough card player on both sides of the border. He frequently made the drive on Route 26 back to Canada to visit family. Eventually, Wes and Barb moved to South Portland, Maine where he enjoyed visiting the bookstore, cooking and watching his grandson swim; before they returned to Canada after 52 years in the U.S.A. Into his final years, he was still hard to beat at a game of cribbage.
He is predeceased by 14 of his siblings and leaves to mourn his brother Ralph (Iris), and sisters Lillian and Brenda (Guy) as well as many siblings-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at the Steve L. Elkas Complex, 4230 Bertrand-Fabi, Sherbrooke, QC, on Sunday November 12, 2023, from 10AM to 11:45AM, followed by the funeral service in the complex chapel at 12PM.
Special thanks to Stephanie and Marie-Pier as well as the staff of the palliative care at Magog Hospital for their compassion and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the palliative care unit in Magog through the Memphrémagog Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
