IVY (EN) WEIR-PANKOVITCH

SHERBROOKE, 17 April 2014

Ivy Weir-Pankovitch died peacefully surrounded by her family at La Maison Aube-Lumière in the wee hours of April 17, 2014 at the age of 85.

She will be remembered by her five children: David, Peter, Jane, Eve and Steven Pankovitch (Karen Christiansen); her ten grandchildren Sunita and Milan Nigam, Nora and Annie Pankovitch, Sarah, Liam and Evan Pankovitch, and Alice, Emma and Lily Gendron; and is survived by her loving sisters Teressa MacLeod (Bury, QC), Claire Thibodeau (St. Catherine’s, ON), and Leola Pehleman (Scotstown, QC), and joins her only brother Pat Weir, and her parents Leuella Agatha Crosbie and Edward James Weir in heaven.

She is known in the Lennoxville, Sherbrooke community as the woman who worked as Women’s Editor at The Sherbrooke Record in the late sixties; obtained a nursing degree and worked at the CHUS in the I.C.U. unit for 20 years; and served as a Lennoxville Town Councillor in the late nineties.

She enjoyed her retirement with her friends at the Canadian Federation of University Women, a book club and a bridge club. All the while she continued to ponder and write about and publish articles about health and politics that concerned her and she thought people should know about. She said she was born to be a journalist.

She died with the dignity and the grace that is truly inspiring, showing us all how it is done naturally. Visitation will be on Friday, April 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Steve L. Elkas Funeral Home at 601 du Conseil Street in Sherbrooke, Québec, J1G 1K4. An 11 a.m. funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 26 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 20 Gordon Street in Sherbrooke, Québec, J1H 4Y5.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Santé Mentale Estrie Inc./Mental Health Estrie Inc., 257 rue Queen, Suite 900, Sherbrooke, QC, J1M1K7 will be gratefully acknowledged.
