Every life has a story

Mrs Hazel Farnham (Goodfellow)

North Hatley, 15 October 2021

Hazel passed away peacefully the morning of Friday October 15, in the home she loved, with the love of her life, her husband of over 59 years, Bob, holding her hand.

Being the youngest of the late James Goodfellow and the late Beatrice Page’s twelve children, she grew up understanding the value of family.

For Hazel, family was everything.  She was a much loved sister and favourite aunt to many. Hazel  was happiest when surrounded by family and dear friends.

When she learned of her diagnosis in late February, her only wish was that she ‘make it’ to summer, so she could have quality time with her children, their spouses & partner and her precious grandchildren.  She got her wish.  “Amma” was surrounded by and showered with love.

Over her eighty-one years, Hazel was an avid gardener, rug hooker, knitter, stenciller, swimmer, skier, runner, tennis player, traveler, reader, Christmas cookie & square maker, BU Gaiter fan, fitness instructor, hiker, cyclist, birdwatcher, nurse, aunt, sister, wife, grandmother, mom and friend.

She did nothing in half measure.  Ever.  She lived life to the fullest, accepting what she could not control and going full steam ahead with the bits she could.  She tackled everything she did with determination, strength and grace.

A truly magnificent person leaves to mourn her loving husband, Bob, her children: Derrick (Leigh Bennett), Cher (Stephen McGurk) and Curt (Carol Liao); her grandchildren: Tate, Ella and Teddy; many relatives and dear friends.

Her passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of many who knew her.  Perhaps, if we all try to channel a little ‘Hazel’ from time to time, that hole will eventually be filled with laughter, smiles and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bob and Hazel’s beloved Gaiters at Bishop’s University Athletics or to the Fondation de l’Hopital de Magog – Soins à domicile, who were a wonderful support to Hazel and family.  We would have been lost without Renée, Dr. Gen (Gagné), and the team.

There will be no funeral, rather a party to celebrate Hazel will take place at the Farnham’s in North Hatley, next summer.
